Sterilization Services Technician - Evenings

Location: On-site at Tufts Medical Center

Salary: $21.53–$26.91 per hour

What you will do

• Receive, sort, disassemble, clean, decontaminate, inspect, and assemble surgical instruments, scopes, equipment, and supplies.
• Select appropriate packaging methods, sterilization methods, and approved cycles, including steam and hydrogen peroxide plasma.
• Load sterilizers and perform biological monitoring, leak tests, Bowie-Dick tests, and routine sterilizer maintenance.
• Document cleaning, sterilization, testing, and case cart activities in instrument and asset tracking systems.
• Build surgical case carts using patient-specific pick lists, verify package integrity and expiration dates, and manage appropriate substitutions.
• Escalate missing instruments, unmet supply requests, equipment repairs, and positive sterilizer test results.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Central Services Technician National Certification (CRCST) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) certification within 12 months of hire.
• Ability to operate sterilization and decontamination equipment and follow established procedures without shortcuts.
• Knowledge of general and specialty instrumentation, infection control, hospital procedures, and medical terminology.
• Computer skills, including Microsoft Office and instrument tracking systems.
• Ability to communicate clearly in English and work on-site for eight hours or the length of the assignment.

• Completion of a certified Central Processing program.
