Electro-Mechanical Controls Engineer (Automation Engineer Lead Analyst) - Express Scripts

Location: Newark, Delaware, United States; onsite pharmacy automation operations

Salary: $38–$63 per hour, with eligibility for an annual bonus plan.

What you will do

• Maintain and improve the performance, reliability, and uptime of automated pharmacy production equipment.
• Lead troubleshooting of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, PLC, field-device, I/O, and computer-controlled systems.
• Identify root causes of recurring failures and implement reliability and continuous improvement solutions.
• Support installation, validation, expansion, upgrades, engineering changes, and equipment modifications.
• Use diagnostics, inspections, performance reports, and CMMS/Maximo to manage equipment history and maintenance activities.
• Collaborate with vendors and engineering partners while training and mentoring technical team members; participate in on-call support.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of experience maintaining, troubleshooting, or supporting automated industrial, manufacturing, or electromechanical equipment.
• Experience with PLC-controlled equipment, field devices, I/O systems, mechanical systems, and pneumatic systems.
• Working knowledge of electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and industrial troubleshooting techniques.
• Experience with preventive, predictive, corrective, and emergency maintenance, including CMMS platforms such as Maximo.
• Ability to diagnose complex equipment issues in a high-volume production environment and communicate effectively across teams.
• Availability to work outside normal shift hours, including weekends, and participate in an on-call rotation. Shift: Monday–Friday, 9:00 PM–5:00 AM.

Nice to have

• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in industrial maintenance, engineering technology, automation, mechatronics, or a related technical field.
• Experience in pharmaceutical, healthcare, packaging, distribution, or other regulated manufacturing environments.
• Experience with automated filling, packaging, conveyor, robotics, or material-handling systems.
• Experience implementing equipment upgrades, engineering changes, continuous improvement initiatives, or mentoring technical staff.
