Principal GNC Trajectory Analyst

Location: Huntsville, Alabama, United States; travel of up to 15% may be required.

What you will do

• Support the Missile Defense Agency Directorate for Test Targets program office in developing missile defense target vehicles.
• Contribute to target design, requirements development and assessment, modeling and simulation, testing, and technical reporting.
• Generate and analyze 3-DoF and 6-DoF trajectory data using TAOS, MATLAB, Python, C++, and in-house tools.
• Analyze onboard instrumentation data and reconstruct trajectories for flight-test analysis and reporting.
• Assess missile characteristics, vehicle performance, dynamics, signatures, and trajectory parameters.
• Collaborate with specialists across multiple technical disciplines to develop engineering and analysis tools.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with 20+ years of experience, or a master’s degree with 12+ years of experience, on missile defense-related or other Department of Defense programs or projects.
• Strong knowledge of aerodynamics, equations of motion, coordinate systems, vehicle dynamics, and guidance, navigation, and control.
• Experience with missile trajectory analysis, coordinate frames, endo- and exo-atmospheric behavior, and trajectory parameter identification.
• Knowledge of satellite orbital mechanics, ephemeris, orbit propagation, perturbations, orbit determination, and maneuver planning.
• Proficiency with MATLAB, Python, Java, C#, Microsoft Office, and other programming languages; experience with TAOS or STK.
• Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Department of War security clearance.

• Familiarity with Missile Defense Agency and Department of Defense programs and processes.
• Experience with design, CAD, trajectory analysis, radar cross-section signatures, or optical signatures.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple technical tasks.
• Ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical audiences.
