TL;DR
Project Engineer I - Automation (Power System Automation): Supporting customers by designing, configuring, validating, installing, commissioning, and operating automation and protection systems with an accent on industrial controls, PLCs, communications protocols, and SCADA practices. Focus on leading complex assignments within scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety requirements while training customers and developing engineering staff.

What you will do

  • Provide technical support to customers on power system automation, protection, industrial controls, and related SEL products.
  • Lead customer training and assist with the creation, design, configuration, validation, installation, commissioning, and operation of automation and protection systems.
  • Assign, complete, and implement project work within agreed scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety requirements.
  • Assist with preparing and presenting proposals for SEL equipment, services, and systems.
  • Mentor and develop professional staff and supervise work as needed.
  • Apply SEL values, operating principles, and World Class Manufacturing principles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a relevant discipline.
  • 5+ years of relevant application experience with electric power systems, industry practices, and automation practices and philosophies.
  • Knowledge of electric power system protection and control, integration and automation, communications applications, system design, studies, information and communication technology, and protective relay applications.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally at least 25% of the time, depending on the focus area.
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills, with the ability to learn new skills and work cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Satisfactory background check and negative drug test results.

Nice to have

  • Professional Engineer license or equivalent certification.
  • Experience in electrical utilities, industrial plants, consulting engineering, or system integration.
  • Project management experience.
  • Working knowledge of Vision or another project management tracking system.
