Senior Director, Medical Affairs (Rare Disease) (Medical Affairs/Rare Disease): Developing and executing medical affairs strategy for a rare disease portfolio with an accent on scientific leadership, external stakeholder engagement, and evidence generation. Focus on leading cross-functional collaboration, overseeing scientific communications and publications, and translating complex clinical data into actionable medical and business insights.

Location: Hybrid position based in Morristown, New Jersey, United States

Salary: $280,000–$325,000 annually

What you will do

  • Develop and implement the medical affairs strategy for the Rare Disease team.
  • Provide scientific leadership and therapeutic-area expertise across internal and external audiences.
  • Engage key opinion leaders, medical influencers, advocacy partners, and other external stakeholders.
  • Oversee congress planning, medical education, scientific communications, and publication strategy.
  • Lead medical and scientific training for Medical, Commercial, and Market Access teams.
  • Drive real-world evidence, investigator-initiated studies, collaborative research, and cross-functional medical planning.

Requirements

  • MD degree and at least 7 years of progressive pharmaceutical industry experience in Medical Affairs.
  • Experience with strategic accountability and leading cross-functional teams.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory, market access, commercial, and ethical requirements, including FDA, OIG, and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Ability to translate complex scientific data into actionable medical and business insights.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Nice to have

  • Rare Disease experience.
  • Experience in hepatology, gastroenterology, or immunology.
  • Experience in data generation and publication strategy.
