Behavioral Health Triage Clinician (Psychiatric Assessment): Providing psychiatric assessments, behavioral health triage, case management, and patient placement support for emergency department and medical-unit patients with an accent on crisis intervention, clinical decision-making, and care coordination. Focus on conducting complex psychiatric evaluations, developing disposition plans, coordinating insurance authorizations and bed searches, and supporting patients, families, and medical staff.

Location: MelroseWakefield Hospital, Melrose, Massachusetts; evening shift, Monday–Friday, 3:00 p.m.–11:30 p.m.

Salary: $60,908.12–$76,140.43 per year

What you will do

  • Conduct psychiatric assessments and triage patients to appropriate clinical services.
  • Provide crisis support and intervention for patients, families, and collaterals in the Emergency Department.
  • Develop clinically appropriate recommendations and disposition plans, including assisting with psychiatric bed searches.
  • Coordinate with psychiatrists, psychiatric administrators, Emergency Department staff, and medical-unit teams on complex cases and patient flow.
  • Manage insurance authorizations, verify eligibility, document assessments and outcomes, and submit service charges.
  • Educate and support medical staff in the care of behavioral health patients.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Social Work or Psychology.
  • Current LICSW or LMHC license.
  • At least two years of experience in crisis intervention, psychiatric assessment, and/or psychiatric evaluation.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, diagnoses, psychopharmacology, common medications, and community resources.
  • Strong verbal, written, interpersonal, critical-thinking, judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work the scheduled full-time evening shift and perform regular computer-based documentation, with occasional standing, walking, and lifting of 5–10 pounds.
