Senior Design Manager - Core Experiences (AI)

Location: Remote within Canada or the United States, or based in San Francisco, New York, or Portland

Salary: US employees: $228,700–$285,900 USD base salary; Canadian employees: $216,200–$270,200 CAD base salary, plus equity and benefits

What you will do

• Define and evolve Mercury’s interaction philosophy across AI-native, conversational, adaptive, and proactive product experiences.
• Set a high product-quality bar across mobile, dashboard, agentic, and other core interfaces.
• Lead, coach, and develop product designers while fostering creative risk-taking and exceptional craft.
• Shape product strategy with Product and Engineering and bring design into ambiguous problems early.
• Use critique, prototyping, exploration, and hands-on collaboration to advance ambitious concepts into pragmatic experiences.
• Share frameworks and perspectives that raise the craft and product-thinking bar across the broader Design organization.

Requirements

• Exceptional product judgment, visual design fundamentals, interaction design skills, and the ability to articulate why experiences work.
• Strong perspective and active curiosity about AI-native, conversational, adaptive, intelligent, and proactive interfaces.
• Demonstrated success leading and developing product designers while staying close to the work.
• Ability to think in systems, connecting screens and features through reusable patterns, information architecture, behaviors, and principles.
• Strong strategic partnership with Product and Engineering, including comfort with unfinished work and technical constraints.
• Ability to operate independently, create structure amid ambiguity, and move work forward with sound judgment.

Nice to have

• Experience designing AI-powered or consumer software.
• Strong prototyping skills.
• Close partnership with Design Systems.
• Deep motion and interaction design expertise.
