Confluent - Staff Software Engineer - Extreme Kafka Lead Engineer (Kafka)

Location: Remote within the United States; some travel may be required based on business demand.

Salary: $161,000–$299,000 per year.

What you will do

• Provide end-to-end technical leadership for the Extreme Kafka initiative within Confluent Cloud.
• Define the technical strategy and supported workload envelope for demanding Kafka workloads.
• Lead architecture, capacity planning, scaling, quotas, tenant placement and isolation, traffic infrastructure, observability, and reliability efforts.
• Align Broker, Traffic, Control Plane, K2, Reliability, Networking, Product, Support, and account teams around milestones and execution.
• Lead customer-facing proofs of concept, production-readiness activities, benchmarks, and gamedays.
• Automate customer-specific workarounds into economically scalable product capabilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required; a master's degree is preferred.
• Deep experience designing, developing, testing, and delivering software solutions.
• Advanced debugging skills, including developing and unit testing fixes for customer-reported issues.
• Experience contributing to automated CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience providing technical guidance and ensuring software quality and unit-test coverage.
• Experience working in Agile environments and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders.
