TL;DR
Principal Network Architect (Enterprise Networking): Architecting and implementing Northern Trust’s global network and the applications and services running on it with an accent on modernization, resiliency, security, and performance. Focus on translating conceptual designs into physical architectures, resolving escalated network issues, and leading engineering and application teams across complex data center, cloud, and connectivity environments.

Location: Naperville, Illinois, United States. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. without employment-based visa sponsorship.

Salary: $137,400–$233,600 USD annually, plus a discretionary bonus program that may include equity.

What you will do

  • Architect and implement the global network and the applications and services that run on it.
  • Translate logical and conceptual designs into physical designs aligned with modernization and transformation roadmaps.
  • Provide technical design guidance and strategic leadership to engineering, infrastructure, application, and leadership teams.
  • Research technologies and develop solutions that improve performance and availability, reduce total cost of ownership, and modernize network delivery.
  • Resolve escalated global network issues and serve as the ultimate technical escalation point.
  • Lead and mentor team members, collaborate with global technical teams, and participate in the Architecture Review Board.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, telecommunications engineering, computer science, computer information systems, or an equivalent technical discipline.
  • 15+ years of experience designing and managing IP network solutions with a four-year degree, or 20+ years of relevant experience.
  • 10+ years of experience with BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, SD-WAN, Layer 2 protocols, WAN/LAN technologies, and transport technologies.
  • Extensive experience with network security, core network services, application delivery, troubleshooting, and solution design.
  • Experience with Cisco Catalyst and Nexus, Juniper MX, Aruba, and Arista platforms.
  • U.S. work authorization is required; employment-based visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

  • Experience with NGFW platforms, Tufin, network access control, load balancers, cloud security, workflow automation, WAN optimization, DNS/IPAM/DHCP, colocation, and data center migration.
  • Knowledge of Check Point, Palo Alto, Fortinet, F5, NetScaler, Forescout, Cisco ISE, Infoblox, Active Directory, CyberArk, AWS, Azure, or Illumio.
