Inspector - Bridge Painting / Construction Inspection

Location: Field-based and on-site across Nassau and Suffolk Counties, New York, primarily at LIRR offices, MTA-provided sites, and active bridge construction locations.

hirify.global is supporting an MTA C&D consulting assignment for the Long Island Rail Road.

What you will do

• Inspect bridge painting, surface preparation, coating systems, containment, and related construction activities.
• Verify contractor work against approved plans, specifications, AMPP requirements, LIRR procedures, and MTA standards.
• Review contractor submittals, certified payrolls, DBE/MBE/WBE updates, schedules, work plans, shop drawings, and payment requisitions.
• Prepare daily inspection reports in MURK format and maintain project records in electronic filing systems and PMIS.
• Coordinate with LIRR/MTA personnel, contractors, consultants, and senior inspectors regarding progress, deficiencies, safety issues, and corrective actions.
• Support railroad protection, track outages, foul time coordination, field updates, and invoice or payment verification.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of bridge painting, construction inspection, coatings inspection, or related infrastructure inspection experience.
• Valid AMPP CIP Level I or Bridge Coatings Inspector Level I certification required for the full task-order duration.
• OSHA 30-Hour training completed within the past five years is required.
• At least 3 years of experience inspecting surface cleaning, surface preparation, coating systems, painting installation, and interpreting construction documents.
• Valid driver's license, Microsoft Office experience, and the ability to travel between project sites are required.
• Ability to work safely in active railroad and construction environments, including tracks, ballast, embankments, elevated areas, containment zones, and traffic-control areas.

Nice to have

• Railroad infrastructure or active railroad operations experience.
• Experience with LIRR, MTA, NYC-area transportation agencies, or public-sector construction projects.
• Knowledge of railroad flagging, track protection, track outages, foul time procedures, and MTA/LIRR documentation systems.

Culture & Benefits

• Full-time assignment for approximately 24 months.
• Regular schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM.
• Weekend and nighttime work may be required based on project and railroad operations.
