TL;DR
Sr Manager, State Government Affairs (State Policy and Lobbying): Supporting state-level advocacy by executing legislative and regulatory strategies, engaging policymakers, and building coalitions with an accent on bill drafting, testimony, rulemaking, and policy analysis. Focus on managing multi-state workstreams, translating policy developments into business-relevant insights, and coordinating consultants and cross-functional responses.

Location: Remote hybrid within the Central Region, with up to 40% travel

New hire base salary: $120,800–$151,000 per year, plus eligibility for a performance-based bonus.

What you will do

  • Manage government affairs activities for an assigned group of states in alignment with state and federal advocacy strategies.
  • Draft and negotiate bill language, support sponsor engagement, coordinate testimony, and assist with committee and floor strategy.
  • Build relationships with bipartisan groups of state legislators, executive branch staff, committee members, trade associations, and coalition partners.
  • Prepare position statements, regulatory comments, briefing materials, executive talking points, and timely updates on legislative, regulatory, and ballot activity.
  • Represent hirify.global in state rulemaking processes and selected external stakeholder or industry forums.
  • Coordinate outside consultants and contract lobbyists, including work plans, budgets, compliance requirements, and cross-functional issue management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 6–8 years of experience in state government, public policy, or state lobbying.
  • Strong understanding of state legislative and regulatory processes, including lobbying and ethics compliance.
  • Experience supporting or executing legislative or regulatory strategies, drafting materials, and engaging policymakers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, project management, judgment, integrity, and discretion.
  • Willingness to travel as needed; experience with relevant policy areas, external consultants, or coalition partners is beneficial.

Nice to have

  • Advanced degree such as JD, MA, MBA, or similar.
  • Experience in a corporate or trade association government affairs function.
  • Prior experience working in or with state government, a legislative office, executive branch, or state agency.
  • Familiarity with policy organizations such as NCSL, CSG, or NGA.
