Employee Benefits Counsel

Location: Concord, California, or Rancho Cordova, California; some travel required at 10–20%.

Salary: $150,000–$185,000 per year.

What you will do

• Monitor and communicate changes in laws, regulations, case law, and legal publications affecting health and welfare plans.
• Research and interpret compliance issues involving ERISA, ACA, the Internal Revenue Code, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, and state insurance laws.
• Develop, update, and maintain compliance education tools, publications, alerts, and library resources.
• Support client service teams in developing strategies to address employee benefits compliance problems.
• Create and deliver presentations for internal sales teams, staff, clients, and prospects.
• Build effective working relationships with internal partners, clients, carriers, and vendors as part of a national employee benefits attorney team.

Requirements

• College degree and J.D. required.
• 4–8 years of experience with compliance issues involving employer-sponsored welfare benefit plans; employee benefits law or compliance consulting experience required.
• Thorough understanding of ACA, ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, the Internal Revenue Code, and applicable insurance laws.
• Strong legal research, writing, organizational, time management, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to explain complex information clearly, work with diverse audiences, and speak comfortably in public.
• Full competence with Microsoft Office and Adobe products, with the ability to learn new technology tools quickly.
