High Voltage Battery Thermal CAE Engineer

Location: Dearborn, Michigan, United States; hybrid with a requirement to be onsite four or more days per week

What you will do

• Perform 1D and 3D thermal and CFD simulations for high-voltage battery packs at system, subsystem, and component levels.
• Post-process and report simulation results to support battery design and product development milestones.
• Process vehicle and laboratory thermal test data and correlate CAE models with physical testing.
• Define loading and boundary conditions for thermal CAE and CFD models.
• Work with testing and battery design and release engineers to specify thermal testing and instrumentation.
• Lead CAE-testing interactions and support test reduction and virtual test signoff.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent degree; a master's degree is preferred.
• At least 2 years of experience with 1D and 3D thermal or CFD simulation techniques and thermal analysis supporting product development.
• Expert knowledge of heat transfer theory and CAE thermal analysis methods.
• Experience with CAE software for heat transfer analysis, including StarCCM+, and model-building tools such as Ansa and HyperMesh.
• Experience with CAD geometry cleanup, simulation model building, meshing, model setup, execution, and post-processing.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Physical thermal testing and thermal test data processing experience.
• Knowledge of scripting languages.
• Experience with high-voltage battery pack design and manufacturing processes.
