TL;DR
BPS Submarine Radar Repair Technician (Radar Systems): Troubleshooting, repairing, modifying, and testing submarine radar systems and electronic components with an accent on AN/BPS-15 and AN/BPS-16 systems, LRU-level repair, cable fabrication, and verification testing. Focus on diagnosing complex radar faults, implementing system upgrades, maintaining engineering test models, and performing occasional shipboard and field assignments.

Location: Virginia Beach, Virginia, United States; primarily laboratory-based with occasional assignments onboard ships, submarines, or at land-based radar and test sites. Travel: approximately 10%.

What you will do

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and test AN/BPS-15 and AN/BPS-16 submarine radar systems at system, subsystem, and LRU levels.
  • Plan and execute radar upgrades, configuration changes, modifications, and field-change implementation.
  • Perform and document System Operational Verification Tests after repairs and upgrades.
  • Maintain Engineering Development Models for radar testing, refurbishment validation, and field-change development.
  • Disassemble, inspect, and reassemble antenna pedestals, turning units, and gearboxes.
  • Fabricate cables with multipin copper connectors and fiber-optic terminations, and develop SOPs from engineering documentation.

Requirements

  • Active Secret security clearance required.
  • Hands-on experience maintaining and troubleshooting military electronic systems, preferably submarine or shipboard radars.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, technical manuals, and engineering documentation.
  • Experience troubleshooting electronic systems to the component or lowest replaceable unit level.
  • Experience with cable fabrication, soldering multipin copper connectors, and terminating fiber-optic cables.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety standards, electrical safety, hazardous-material handling, PPE, technical reporting, Microsoft Office, and general computer use.

Nice to have

  • Experience with AN/BPS-15, AN/BPS-16, SPS-48, SPS-67, SPS-73, SPS-80, or BridgeMaster-E radar systems and electronic test equipment.
  • Familiarity with intermediate-level maintenance in avionics or military and industrial electronics environments.
  • Technical associate degree, technical certification, relevant US Navy NEC, or submarine electronics experience.
  • Experience with gearbox overhauls, precision measurements, composite repair, and carbon-fiber repair.
