Health and Safety Specialist (12 month Contract)

Location: Guelph or Calgary, Canada; approximately 20–25% travel within Canada, including remote or industrial field sites

Salary: CAD 29.00–50.00 per hour, commensurate with experience, skills, and geographic location

What you will do

• Provide health and safety support for water resources projects, including watershed and flood risk modeling, water quality evaluation, geomorphology, restoration, and water infrastructure services.
• Conduct in-field health and safety inspections and support hazard assessments, emergency response planning, and workplace inspections.
• Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses, identifying corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Develop and implement safety programs covering ground disturbance, excavation, off-highway vehicles, driving, and work around water.
• Coordinate local joint occupational health and safety committees and advise leaders and employees on safety practices.
• Support safety communications, training, onboarding, and digital management tools such as Benchmark, Workday Learning, Motive, and Get Home Safe.

Requirements

• At least five years of experience in a health and safety role, including field experience.
• Occupational Health and Safety Certificate or a relevant degree.
• Strong knowledge of Canadian OHS legislation, including requirements in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario.
• Experience building collaborative relationships with employees and leaders at all levels.
• Availability to work from the Guelph or Calgary office and travel approximately 20–25%, primarily within Canada.
• Ability to work in outdoor, remote, or industrial environments with variable and extreme weather conditions.

Nice to have

• Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation; Canadian Registered Safety Technician or National Construction Safety Officer designation will also be considered.
• Experience supporting construction, environmental, industrial, or energy-adjacent projects.
• Experience with digital health and safety management systems, auditing, industrial hygiene, or WCB claims management.
