Associate Research Scientist (Radiogenic Isotope Geochemistry)

What you will do

• Oversee daily operations, maintenance, user support, and continued development of the R. Ken Williams ’45 Radiogenic Isotope Geosciences Laboratory.
• Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, optimization, and technical support for laboratory equipment and analytical instrumentation.
• Train and support students, research assistants, postdoctoral researchers, visiting scientists, faculty, and external users.
• Develop and implement laboratory methods and analytical procedures for sample analysis.
• Analyze samples for external users, including data quality assurance, data analysis, and reporting of results.
• Manage facility operations, laboratory supply procurement and invoicing, facility projects, website maintenance, strategic planning, and long-term growth initiatives.

Requirements

• PhD in geology, oceanography, chemistry, or a closely related discipline.
• At least three years of relevant research experience, including inorganic geochemistry and clean laboratory protocols.
• Experience operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and developing analytical methods with ICP-MS, MC-ICP-MS, TIMS, HR-ICP-MS, and/or laser ablation systems.
• Technical understanding of mass spectrometers and their associated software, along with proficiency using laboratory and hardware tools.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to support faculty, staff, students, and external users.
• Ability to move light office materials weighing up to 50 pounds and sit or stand for extended periods.
