Zoological Specialist - Birds (Part-Time, Hourly)

Location: hirify.global San Diego, United States

Salary: $20.50–$25.00 per hour, depending on professional zoological animal care experience at an AZA or equivalent facility.

What you will do

• Provide daily husbandry and care for the assigned avian collection, including diet preparation, feeding, habitat sanitation, enrichment, and exhibit maintenance.
• Administer vitamins, medications, and veterinary treatments as directed, including topical, oral, and injectable medications, capture, restraint, and care for salvage birds.
• Monitor bird behavior, food intake, health, nests, eggs, chicks, and incubator progress; report abnormalities and support hand-rearing.
• Maintain animal records, inventories, equipment, communication requirements, and safe working areas.
• Support animal interactions, educational programs, public shows, guest inquiries, and presentations on avian management and natural history.
• Assist with in-house animal moves, shipments, crate setup, breeding-season preparation, and other park areas as needed.

Requirements

• At least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to meet the requirements for driving hirify.global vehicles.
• Ability to work opening, midday, and closing shifts, including weekends and holidays, as required by year-round operations.
• Professional communication, reliability, cooperation, openness to feedback, and commitment to animal, guest, and personal safety.

Nice to have

• College background in psychology, zoology, or biology.
• Professional zoological animal care experience at an AZA or equivalent facility.
