Senior Bioprocess Engineer, Yeast Manufacturing (Biotechnology)

Location: Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA; hybrid role

What you will do

• Provide troubleshooting, problem-solving, and proactive technical support for health and biosciences manufacturing processes.
• Benchmark and optimize internal and external yeast manufacturing operations, including performance, compliance, quality, and product cost.
• Support new product launches, technology transfers, process commercialization, and front-end loading for capital expansion projects.
• Monitor and communicate process performance, operational efficiency, and product cost metrics.
• Develop technoeconomic evaluations for manufacturing improvements, CAPEX projects, commercialization, and debottlenecking initiatives.
• Contribute to global manufacturing technology strategies and evaluate assets and capabilities for current and future business needs.

Requirements

• BS or MS in Chemical Engineering or a related field is strongly preferred.
• At least five years of relevant experience, preferably in industrial or biochemical yeast processing.
• Strong knowledge of fermentation, downstream processing, and liquid and solid formulation, with an emphasis on yeast manufacturing.
• Experience with manufacturing optimization and process improvement initiatives, plus project management experience.
• Ability to collaborate across locations, functions, and divisions, with strong decision-making, prioritization, strategic thinking, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Financial and business acumen, including project justification and product cost analysis.

Nice to have

• Experience leading strategic R&D and manufacturing technology initiatives for yeast manufacturing.
• Experience supporting contract manufacturers or multi-site operations.
• Knowledge of front-end loading and capital project execution processes.
