Vice President, Application Architecture (Cloud)

Location: Boston, United States; hybrid work arrangement. The role provides 18 remote workdays per quarter, subject to manager approval.

Base salary: $225,000–$240,000 USD per year, plus a discretionary annual bonus and potential long-term rewards.

What you will do

• Set enterprise and platform architecture direction, including target-state visions, standards, reference architectures, and modernization roadmaps.
• Define a unified platform architecture spanning applications, integration, cloud infrastructure, shared services, and engineering capabilities.
• Guide modernization initiatives toward microservices, event-driven systems, micro-frontends, cloud-native engineering, and secure software delivery.
• Establish reusable frameworks, common services, architecture guardrails, and distributed-systems methodologies covering messaging, caching, data access, and service communication.
• Partner with application, platform, data, security, infrastructure, product, delivery, vendor, and enterprise technology stakeholders.
• Mentor architects and senior engineers, influence governance and review processes, and improve architectural quality while reducing technical debt.

Requirements

• 15+ years of experience across enterprise architecture, software engineering, cloud platforms, and large-scale technology modernization.
• Bachelor’s degree in a technology-related field, an advanced degree, or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated success defining enterprise-scale architecture strategies and influencing adoption across multiple teams, platforms, and business domains.
• Hands-on expertise in microservices, micro-frontends, event-driven architecture, distributed systems, API integration, and modern software design patterns.
• Strong cloud-native and DevOps experience, including cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, automation, observability, resilience, environment management, and release governance; Azure experience is preferred.
• Practical experience with Angular, React, TypeScript, Node.js, Kafka, Redis, data access patterns, and service-to-service communication.

Nice to have

• Experience with TOGAF, capability modeling, architecture governance, or architecture review processes.
• Experience with application portfolio modernization, platform rationalization, and legacy-to-modern transition states.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes or OpenShift, data architecture, analytics platforms, and enterprise integration ecosystems.
