Sr Director Life Underwriting (Life Insurance): Leading life underwriting risk assessment and strategy to improve accessibility, mortality and morbidity results, and service for sales partners with an accent on underwriting innovation, regulatory compliance, and analytics. Focus on transforming risk selection processes, managing specialty teams, overseeing underwriting guidelines and audits, and resolving complex customer and operational issues.
Location: Work from home, United States; occasional travel of less than 10%.
Salary: $200,000–$233,000 annually, plus eligibility for an annual bonus of 25%.

What you will do
- Lead life underwriting risk assessment processes, procedures, guidelines, forms, and manuals across insurance products and distribution systems.
- Set underwriting strategy and transform risk selection processes while balancing mortality and morbidity results, customer service, and regulatory compliance.
- Manage specialty underwriting teams, including vendor management, international business, forensic underwriting, research and development, and medical functions.
- Use data analytics, audits, and performance monitoring to evaluate underwriting experience and decisions.
- Set departmental goals, manage budget needs, resolve escalated issues, and lead integrated workflow and system development initiatives.
- Hire, develop, counsel, and evaluate staff while building an inclusive and high-performing department culture.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a business field or equivalent experience.
- Expert knowledge of life insurance underwriting processes and procedures.
- At least eight years of leadership experience, preferably in life insurance.
- FALU, FLMI, CLU, or a similar professional designation.
- Experience developing, executing, and measuring strategic plans.
- Strong business judgment, negotiation, relationship-building, influencing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Nice to have
- Knowledge of mortality risk factors, insurance principles, actuarial theory, insurance and privacy regulations, FINRA regulations, reinsurance treaties, pool agreements, retention limits, and individual life insurance products and riders.
- Project management experience.
