Heavy Truck Mechanic

Location: New Berlin, Wisconsin, United States; onsite shop environment

Starting wage: $46.22 per hour for journeyman-level applicants, plus union-based insurance and pension.

What you will do

• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on heavy-duty trucks and trailers.
• Diagnose engine, emissions, fuel, drivetrain, hydraulic, air-brake, and 12-volt electrical systems.
• Use diagnostic software and precision tools to identify and resolve equipment issues.
• Repair and fabricate equipment using welding tools and hydraulic-system equipment.
• Assist with repairs on heavy equipment and maintain a clean, safe shop environment.
• Communicate assignment-impacting issues to supervisors and complete additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Strong mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of heavy-duty truck components.
• Experience with diagnostic software and welding.
• Ability to follow safety rules, work under pressure, manage changing priorities, and complete repairs independently.
• Effective verbal and written communication with coworkers and management.
• Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), or ability to obtain one.
• Must be willing to join Operating Engineers, Local 139, and pass a pre-employment drug screen and motor vehicle record requirements.
