Senior Water Resources Engineer (Surface Water)

Location: Calgary, Alberta, Canada; periodic travel within Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan is required.

What you will do

• Lead conceptual, preliminary, and detailed engineering design for surface water, municipal stormwater, and flood mitigation projects.
• Oversee stormwater drainage networks, storage facilities, constructed wetlands, low-impact development features, overland drainage systems, and erosion and sediment control measures.
• Direct hydrologic and hydraulic modeling initiatives, including Master Drainage Plans, staged drainage plans, PCSWMM dual-drainage evaluations, dam breach inundation analyses, and wetland water balance studies.
• Guide river, hydrotechnical, and water quality assessments while balancing development needs with protection of natural systems.
• Manage multidisciplinary project scopes from concept through commissioning, including schedules, budgets, scope changes, client communication, tender documents, cost estimates, and construction administration.
• Support regulatory approvals, business development, proposals, client engagement, practice growth, and mentoring of junior and intermediate engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Water Resources, or Environmental Engineering.
• P.Eng. or P.L.Eng. registration with APEGA, or eligibility for immediate transfer.
• 10 or more years of progressive water resources and municipal engineering experience, focused on urban stormwater management and surface water modeling.
• Advanced experience with PCSWMM, EPA SWMM, MIKE+, InfoWorks ICM, or GeoSTORM.
• Experience with Civil3D, AutoCAD, and spatial analysis platforms such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or Global Mapper.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s licence with a clean record and willingness to travel periodically across Western Canada.

Nice to have

• Graduate degree in a relevant field.
• Experience with HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWAT, HSP-F, or EFDC.
• Knowledge of Python, R, or VBA for model automation and data processing.
