TL;DR
Clinical Terminologist (Contract) (Clinical Terminology/Data Normalization): Standardizing healthcare data by identifying, creating, and validating mappings between source medical terms and standardized terminologies with an accent on SNOMED CT, RxNorm, LOINC, and clinical data quality. Focus on performing data checks, maintaining terminology and project documentation, and collaborating with engineering, project management, and modeling teams to improve data pipelines.

Location: Seattle, WA; hybrid model with the flexibility to work from anywhere. Meetings are optimized for Pacific Time, with ad hoc meetings between 8am and 6pm PT.

Hourly rate: $30–$40 per hour.

What you will do

  • Identify, create, and validate mappings between medical terms from different healthcare systems and standardized clinical terminologies.
  • Extend and maintain terminology mappings to improve healthcare data normalization.
  • Perform data checks and edits to ensure data quality and adherence to data standards.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in data management and contribute to process improvements.
  • Develop and maintain project documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineering, project management, and modeling teams to improve data pipelines.

Requirements

  • Education in medicine or a related field, such as nursing, pharmacy, clinical laboratory science, medical informatics, medical research, or medical coding.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • At least 1 year of practical experience with clinical terminologies, including SNOMED CT, RxNorm, or LOINC.
  • Understanding of electronic medical records, medical charts, medication lists, lab reports, SOAP notes, and procedure notes.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and commonly used abbreviations, with the ability to work independently and communicate effectively.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer; visa or work permit sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

  • Experience with clinical terminology mapping using SNOMED CT, LOINC, and RxNorm.
  • Experience annotating training data for machine learning models.
  • Relevant coding or health information certification, such as CPC, CCS, CCA, RHIT, RHIA, COC, or CIC.
