Life Underwriting Sr. Consultant (Remote)

Base pay: $91,700–$169,600 annually

What you will do

• Evaluate life insurance applications by analyzing medical, financial, and lifestyle risk factors.
• Classify new business, changes, reinstatements, and inquiries accurately and efficiently.
• Identify potential fraud and apply underwriting guidelines while balancing risk selection, competitiveness, and customer experience.
• Approve applications within established authority limits, including cases over $3 million, and recommend decisions for cases outside authority or with higher complexity.
• Manage underwriting requirements and collaborate with reinsurers on rated cases and large-case reviews.
• Build relationships with brokers, advisors, and internal partners while contributing to process improvements and departmental initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• At least 7 years of life underwriting experience.
• Expertise in substandard underwriting, large-case underwriting, and medical and financial risk assessment.
• Proficiency in financial underwriting, including business cases, and understanding of reinsurance principles.
• Ability to analyze complex cases, make independent real-time decisions, and document rationale clearly.
• Strong written and verbal communication, collaboration, quality focus, and continuous-improvement mindset.

• Industry designations such as FLMI, FALU, or CLU.
