P&C Technician II - Senior (Electrical Protection & Control)

Location: Kingsport, Tennessee; must live within a 45-minute driving distance of the Kingsport Service Center. The role works four 10-hour shifts, Monday through Thursday, and requires considerable travel, overtime, emergency callouts, and heavy physical work.

Compensation: $31.33–$62.38 per hour, with standard base pay of $30.27 for P&C Technician II, $37.52 for P&C Technician I, and $62.38 for P&C Technician Senior.

What you will do

• Install, test, calibrate, operate, and maintain protection, control, measurement, and communications equipment in electrical stations.
• Work with digital and electromechanical relays, intelligent electronic devices, station SCADA, RTUs, event and fault recorders, telemetering, transducers, and power line carriers.
• Perform switching under the direction of the appropriate operating authority and support emergency restoration of customer service.
• Install and analyze power line monitoring equipment and data related to system disturbances and harmonic levels.
• Diagnose equipment trouble, misoperation, or damage and perform corrective actions to repair equipment and prevent recurrence.
• Maintain accurate records, reports, drawings, test equipment, and automotive equipment while following safety, NERC, environmental, and operating requirements.

Requirements

• Associate degree in electrical engineering technology, electronic technology, or a related field, or equivalent technical military or technician experience.
• No previous experience is required for the P&C Technician II level; higher levels require satisfactory experience and qualification progression.
• Ability to read, understand, and correct electrical prints, diagrams, and instruction books related to protection, control, and measurement circuits.
• Valid state driver’s license and compliance with applicable vehicle operation requirements.
• Successful completion of the Physical Abilities Test (PAT).
• Ability to work safely in a physically demanding role and accept considerable travel, overtime, and emergency callouts.

Nice to have

• At least 24 months of satisfactory P&C Technician II experience for the P&C Technician I level.
• At least 24 months of combined P&C Technician I experience or equivalent for the P&C Technician Senior level.
• Knowledge of current, potential, closing, and trip circuits; switchboard panel wiring; protective relay materials; and power system equipment.
