TL;DR
Senior Electric Propulsion Engineer II (electric propulsion and spacecraft systems): Owning the end-to-end development of space propulsion and fluidic systems with an accent on system modelling, requirements management, systems engineering, and test execution. Focus on validating performance models with test data, making risk-based engineering decisions, and leading technical development across engineers, technicians, and stakeholders.

Location: Long Beach, California, United States; based in a U.S. office

Base salary: $132,000–$220,000 USD annually. Total compensation including equity: $165,000–$277,000 USD annually.

What you will do

  • Own new and existing propulsion products and systems as technical lead through the end-to-end development process.
  • Perform conceptual and detailed performance calculations, systems modelling, analysis, and system design.
  • Gather, define, and manage requirements while leading systems engineering activities.
  • Plan, instrument, execute, and analyze propulsion system tests.
  • Make risk-based technical decisions and manage project schedules, priorities, task assignments, and status communication.
  • Mentor engineers and technicians and maintain engineering standards through documentation, training, coaching, and work reviews.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in propulsion system development or an equivalent high-performance engineering field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, mechatronics, or another technical engineering discipline.
  • Expertise in propulsion system modelling, static and transient analysis, and model validation using test data.
  • Experience with requirements gathering, detailed design, qualification, production, and acceptance testing.
  • Strong understanding of the Systems Engineering V-model and risk-based decision-making, plus experience with electric propulsion systems.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, and the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance is required.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Jama, Python for data manipulation, NX or equivalent CAD, GD&T, engineering drawings, PLM software, or National Instruments data acquisition systems.
  • Experience testing and troubleshooting flight hardware.
  • Master’s degree or PhD and hands-on engineering experience.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work through ambiguity.
