Hire Workshop Engineer (Generators)

Location: Heanor, United Kingdom; full-time workshop-based role.

What you will do

• Service, maintain, and repair diesel generators ranging from small sets to multi-megawatt units.
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using tools, test equipment, and diagnostic software.
• Complete pre-hire inspections, load bank testing, functional checks, and performance verification.
• Prepare generators, distribution equipment, and related components for deployment to customer sites.
• Maintain service records, job sheets, and compliance documentation in line with ISO9001, ISO14001, and ISO45001 procedures.
• Support workshop organisation, stock control, continuous improvement, and safe collaboration with engineering and operations teams.

Requirements

• Proven experience working with diesel generators or similar mechanical and electrical plant.
• Strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills.
• Ability to read technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and service manuals.
• Strong understanding of workshop safety, quality, and compliance requirements.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Full UK driving licence preferred.

Nice to have

• Experience with Volvo, Scania, Perkins, or MTU engine systems.
• Knowledge of control panels, alternators, and generator control systems such as Deep Sea or ComAp.
