TL;DR
Systems Engineer (VMware): Designing, deploying, and maintaining secure enterprise IT infrastructure for government services with an accent on Windows Server, virtualization, storage, networking, and regulatory compliance. Focus on configuring highly available VMware environments, improving disaster recovery and system resilience, and protecting sensitive information under NISP and Department of Defense requirements.

Location: Glen Allen, VA 23060, United States; full-time onsite. Travel to client sites or project locations may be required, approximately 10%.

Salary: $87,920–$131,880 per year.

What you will do

  • Design, deploy, and maintain secure network architectures, servers, switches, and enterprise storage systems.
  • Manage Windows Server, Active Directory, VMware virtualization, vCenter, and enterprise storage environments.
  • Evaluate systems to identify bottlenecks and vulnerabilities, improving availability, performance, and security.
  • Plan and execute upgrades and technology rollouts using change-management procedures, including off-hours work when needed.
  • Maintain operating procedures, configuration standards, security policies, and compliance documentation.
  • Mentor junior infrastructure engineers and collaborate with security teams, project managers, and other stakeholders on capacity planning and contract deliverables.

Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of experience designing, deploying, and supporting enterprise IT infrastructure in secure or regulated environments.
  • Experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, enterprise networking and storage, and SQL Server.
  • Expertise in VMware cluster configuration, high availability, disaster recovery, and vCenter management.
  • Understanding of IT security frameworks, data privacy laws, NISP, and Department of Defense compliance requirements.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, prioritization, and independent project-management skills.
  • Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain required government security clearances. Ability to write and read complex documents in English.

Nice to have

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • CompTIA Security+ and Network+ certifications.
  • MCSE, CCNA, or VMware Certified Professional certification.
