TL;DR
Michigan PIP Claim Specialist (Insurance Claims): Managing complex Michigan Personal Injury Protection claims from inception through resolution with an accent on coverage analysis, investigation, valuation, and negotiation. Focus on applying Michigan PIP, no-fault, negligence, and subrogation law while resolving medical and attorney-represented claims.
Location: Hybrid in Michigan, United States; primarily remote from a home office with occasional travel for meetings, inspections, collaborative activities, or team events. Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:30pm ET.
Salary: $67,317.20-$104,811.20 annually, plus potential annual company bonus incentive.

What you will do
- Manage complex Michigan PIP intermediate claims involving fractures, mild closed head injuries, surgical procedures, and attendant care.
- Review coverage, policyholder benefits, damages, applicable limits, exclusions, and recovery potential.
- Investigate claim facts, secure evidence, evaluate losses, approve payments, and establish resolution plans.
- Work with insureds, claimants, physicians’ offices, medical insurance carriers, attorneys, and internal recovery or special investigation units.
- Document and code claim files, create sub-claims when needed, and complete claim closure activities.
- Negotiate claim settlements and handle MCCA, attorney-represented, subrogation, and simple litigation matters.
Requirements
- Three years of experience or equivalent training in claim settlement negotiation, evidence evaluation, estimates, subrogation, coverage questions, statements, and claim resolution planning.
- Completion of the ACG Claim Representative Training Program or equivalent knowledge and experience.
- Advanced knowledge of Michigan insurance law, the Essential Insurance Act, Fair Trade Practices Act, subrogation, intercompany arbitration, negligence law, no-fault law, medical terminology, human anatomy, MCCA, and attorney-represented claims.
- Eligibility to obtain a required state adjuster’s license within 90 days of hire and maintain it where applicable.
- A valid driver’s license is required when duties include in-person inspections or frequent in-person meetings; travel outside the assigned territory, including overnight stays, may be required.
- Strong communication, customer service, analytical, decision-making, organization, and negotiation skills.

- Associate degree in business administration, insurance, or a related field.
- Insurance Institute of America General Insurance Program, Associate in Claims, Associate in Management, or equivalent coursework.
- CPCU coursework or designation.
