Construction Technician

Location: Knoxville, TN, USA

Public utility organization providing electric, gas, water, wastewater, and fiber services to customers in Knoxville and surrounding counties.

What you will do

• Construct, install, repair, and maintain natural gas, water, and wastewater pipelines and services.
• Safely operate excavators, dump trucks, loaders, trailers, small cranes, hand tools, and other construction equipment.
• Transport and manage construction materials across utility projects.
• Read maps, blueprints, construction prints, and engineering diagrams; take measurements and prepare field sketches.
• Respond to emergencies and help restore essential utility services while following applicable safety standards.

Requirements

• High school education or equivalent and strong mechanical ability.
• Experience or ability to operate large vehicles, equipment, and tools used in utility construction and maintenance.
• Valid driver's license; a Tennessee Commercial Driver's License must be obtained and maintained within six months.
• Ability to perform heavy physical work, work outdoors in extreme weather and wet conditions, and operate equipment weighing more than 75 pounds.
• Ability to work rotating shifts, standby schedules, overtime, weekends, nights, holidays, and emergency call-ins.

Nice to have

• One to four years of utility construction and maintenance experience.
• Experience operating heavy construction equipment, tools, instruments, and vehicles.
• Progression through a natural gas Operator Qualification program.
• Current Class A Tennessee CDL and experience reading pipeline construction diagrams.
• Strong communication skills and experience using computers to manage work.
