What you will do

• Lead early-phase AI systems, designing and building AI-first user experiences with rapid experimentation and measurement.
• Influence product direction from an engineering perspective, balancing quick wins with scalable capabilities.
• Evolve prototypes into reliable, maintainable, and observable production AI systems.
• Develop AI-assisted modeling and authoring workflows for plan design, data mapping, and explanations.
• Implement contextual help, explainers, and policy Q&A using retrieval-augmented generation patterns.
• Design and implement AI evaluation and safety primitives, including offline/online evals, telemetry, and human-in-the-loop workflows.
• Create reusable AI platform components for prompt orchestration, hybrid retrieval, caching, tracing, and cost/performance controls.
• Contribute to architecture, coding standards, testing, and mentoring, raising the technical bar for AI systems.

Requirements

• 6+ years of software engineering experience shipping production systems with significant ownership of architecture, technical direction, and quality.
• Demonstrated success building AI-powered products or platforms in highly exploratory settings (0→1, greenfield initiatives, early AI features).
• Hands-on experience designing, building, and operating AI systems in production, including integrating LLMs or other models into real user workflows.
• Experience implementing AI evaluation and guardrails (e.g., offline and online evaluations, safety filters, human-in-the-loop workflows, red-teaming).
• Fluency in modern product and platform development, with hands-on experience in Python/Django, TypeScript/JavaScript, React, and PostgreSQL.
• Strong systems and platform thinking, including APIs, data modeling, scalability, observability, and the unique operational challenges of AI-enabled systems.
• High comfort with ambiguity and technical decision-making in AI contexts.
• Excellent communication skills and product sensibility, with the ability to collaborate deeply with product, design, and stakeholders.
