Member of Technical Staff – Multimodal Safety (AI)

Member of Technical Staff (Multimodal AI Safety): Developing and implementing cutting-edge safety methodologies for post-training multimodal large language models with an accent on designing novel safety evaluation frameworks and fine-tuning algorithms. Focus on uncovering potential risks, building automated safety testing systems, and adapting state-of-the-art techniques for production systems.

Location: Mountain View, United States. Employees are expected to work from a designated Microsoft office at least four days a week if they live within 50 miles (U.S.) of that location.

Salary: USD $158,400 – $304,200 per year (for San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area).

• Leverage expertise in multimodal safety to uncover potential risks and develop novel mitigation strategies.
• Create and implement comprehensive evaluation frameworks and red-teaming methodologies.
• Build automated safety testing systems and generalize safety solutions into repeatable frameworks.
• Maintain a user-oriented perspective by understanding safety needs and validating approaches through user research.
• Track advances in multimodal safety research and adapt algorithms to drive innovation in production systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline.
• 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States.

Nice to have

• Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field and 6+ years experience.
• Proven expertise in multimodal LLM safety with experience in diffusion models and generative image/video/audio.
• Track record building evaluation frameworks, automated red-teaming, and reusable guardrail systems for safety at scale.
• Experience in safety pipelines and user-validated safety decisions across product teams.
