MIDDLE TECHNICAL GAME DESIGNER (ORANGE CAT STUDIOS)
🦄 Description
Orange Cat Studios is developing a compact, intense co-op FPS prototype inspired by classic wave-based zombie survival modes like Nacht der Untoten, with a modern twist. The goal of this first phase is to prove out the core gameplay loop in Unreal Engine 5. As a Technical Game Designer, you will shape the moment-to-moment experience, build and iterate on core systems, and help turn existing assets into a tight, replayable co-op zombie survival prototype.
🚀 Responsibilities
• Collaborate with project leads to define and refine the core wave-based zombie survival loop
• Help polish design documents and production plans for enemy waves, scoring, and co-op systems
• Prototype mechanics in Blueprints or C++, including weapons, hit detection, scoring, and basic progression
• Work with Unreal Engine multiplayer replication to ensure all systems function in 2–4 player co-op
• Integrate and iterate on FAB / Marketplace assets (maps, zombies, weapons, animations)
• Identify when new tools or systems are needed and define requirements
• Focus on building one atmospheric, replayable arena-style map with increasing difficulty and strategic chokepoints
• Support the delivery of the first playable co-op prototype within the contract period
📚 Required Skills
• 2+ years of experience with Unreal Engine (UE4/UE5)
• Strong proficiency with Blueprints (C++ is a plus)
• Proven experience working on first-person shooters in Unreal Engine
• Familiarity with implementing and iterating on FAB / Marketplace assets
• Ability to design and tune co-op friendly, moment-to-moment gameplay
• Resume and portfolio or website showcasing relevant Unreal Engine experience
👍 Nice to Have
• Experience building wave-based, co-op, or survival modes
• Strong sense for combat feel, weapon feedback, and pacing
• Experience prototyping from early concept to first playable
• Background in environmental or gameplay-focused level design
