Escape Velocity is hiring a Senior Game Development Engineer focused on Automation Systems to improve the reliability, scalability, and overall health of the development process. You will bridge gameplay engineering, design, art, debug engineering, QA, and build/release by architecting automation, validation, and testing solutions for Unreal workflows, driving fast, stable, confidence-driven development.
🚀 Responsibilities
• Collaborate with gameplay, design, art, debug engineering, QA, and build/release to identify and resolve workflow inefficiencies
• Design, implement, and maintain automated testing and validation frameworks within Unreal to ensure reliable, consistent build quality
• Produce and evolve test and validation systems; train developers to adopt automation and test-driven development practices
• Partner with QA Engineering to align automation coverage with testing goals
• Work with Build/Release, QA, and Debug Engineering to collect, triage, distribute, and track crash and validation data
• Maintain visibility of critical issues and ensure accountability for stability and build health across teams
• Architect scalable solutions supporting CI/CD, continuous integration, and long-term maintainability
• Guide the evolution of development health systems from early architecture to refinement and expansion
• Champion test-driven development and sustainable engineering practices
• Debug and optimize systems in runtime and editor environments
• Communicate technical changes and recommendations clearly to cross-discipline partners
• Support feature/gameplay teams in integrating stable workflows, testing infrastructure, and validation practices
📚 Required Skills
• 5+ years of professional experience in games
• Strong test-driven development mindset and ability to advocate and teach these practices
• Proven contributions to automation, build, or validation systems on shipped or live products
• Familiarity with Unreal automation frameworks (functional tests, automation specs, or custom)
• Solid background in 3D math, gameplay programming, and core game development concepts
• Strong C++ foundations and experience with large codebases; familiarity with Python, UE Blueprint, or build scripting for automation/integration
• End-to-end production experience across development and post-launch or live-ops phases
• Strong understanding of CI/CD, version control, build validation, and reporting pipelines
• Ability to execute broad objectives with minimal oversight
• Excellent communication and cross-discipline collaboration skills
• Values maintainability, clarity, and continuous improvement

• Experience mentoring teams in test-driven development and automation best practices
• Track record improving build stability and crash-trend accountability across studios
• Experience integrating reporting dashboards for validation results
