Gamelance is seeking a Level Designer to craft immersive and atmospheric environments for a first-person project. The ideal candidate will have strong spatial design instincts and a deep understanding of how level flow shapes gameplay tension, pacing, and player emotion.
🚀 Responsibilities
• Design and block out levels that support gameplay, pacing, and atmosphere
• Plan spatial flow to control tension, surprise, and player direction
• Collaborate closely with art and design leads to align layouts with tone and narrative themes
• Place and organize geometry, lighting references, and environmental zones to support mood and readability
• Iterate on blockouts based on playtesting and feedback
• Ensure strong navigation and player guidance without relying on UI or markers
• Document level intentions and flow diagrams for team reference
📚 Required Skills
• Proven experience designing levels for first-person games (portfolio or playable sample required)
• Strong understanding of composition, scale, rhythm, and flow in 3D spaces
• Knowledge of environmental storytelling and emotional design through layout
• Ability to build and iterate greyboxes/blockouts efficiently in Unreal Engine 5
• Excellent sense of pacing and tension in exploration or horror settings
• Good communication and teamwork skills
