Location: Hybrid role based in Toronto, Canada, with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote.

What you will do

• Lead the Commerce API team in the Toronto office, setting the technical vision, driving execution of the team's roadmap, and providing technical guidance.
• Write well-tested, high-quality, and secure code to build performant APIs that enable our Commerce platform.
• Mentor and guide developers in their work, up-skilling the team to solve complex problems and foster a culture of continuous learning and growth.
• Architect solutions, actively participate in choosing new technologies and frameworks, and proactively anticipate performance problems.
• Collaborate closely with Product Owners, Customer Success, and Technical Account Managers to deeply understand customer problems and design effective solutions.
• Own the team's development processes, including planning and executing sprints, leading code reviews, and ensuring that unit and integration tests meet our coverage requirements.

Requirements

• Senior-level experience and demonstrable leadership within a software development context, with a passion for remaining a hands-on coder.
• 8 or more years of experience using Python in a web context or equivalent work experience, with a willingness to learn Python quickly if your background is in another language.
• Proven experience building secure and scalable Web/REST APIs and working with a variety of API standards.
• Expertise in developer mentorship and up-skilling, with the soft skills required to successfully lead teams in hybrid and multi-location environments.
• Experience with development tools including Git, the CLI, and API clients like Postman, Insomnia, or Bruno.
• Familiarity with SaaS products or experience working on a product with frequent releases within a rapidly scaling global company.

Nice to have

• Good knowledge of databases, especially NoSQL (ideally MongoDB).
• Understanding of Docker or Kubernetes in a cloud environment.
• Experience with deployment safety and testing principles.
