TL;DR

Counsel, Employment Law (Legal): Providing strategic legal counsel to Human Resources and business executives on complex employment law matters with an accent on California labor regulations, internal investigations, and litigation management. Focus on drafting legal documentation, advising on policy development, and ensuring compliance across a large-scale media organization.

Location: Must be based in or able to commute to Universal City, California for a hybrid schedule (4 days per week in-office).

Salary: $150,000 - $185,000 per year.

What you will do

  • Advise HR professionals and executives on employment law issues including leaves of absence, misconduct, and wage-and-hour matters.
  • Oversee and conduct internal investigations to ensure prompt and appropriate resolution of concerns.
  • Represent the company in mediations, arbitrations, and litigation proceedings.
  • Draft legal documents including position statements, settlement agreements, and separation agreements.
  • Monitor legislative developments and provide guidance on emerging employment law trends.
  • Develop and deliver training programs related to employment law for internal stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school or foreign equivalent.
  • Active member in good standing of the California state bar or qualified to register as California in-house counsel.
  • Minimum of 4 years of employment law experience at a nationally-recognized law firm or in-house.
  • Ability to travel regionally and domestically as needed.
  • Strong communication and legal research skills with a professional, team-oriented approach.
