What you will do

• Develop the core algorithms for MetaBuddy, an AI-based assistant for researcher data preparation.
• Design and evaluate experiments involving LLMs, RAG, agentic workflows, and prompting strategies.
• Research AI methods to help researchers capture, interpret, and organize metadata for the Resilience Hub.
• Assess the performance of different models and architectures using custom benchmarks and metrics.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of biologists, computational scientists, and software engineers.
• Iterate on the development of the AI system based on user feedback and technical requirements.

Requirements

• Experience applying LLMs to real-world problems involving scientific or technical documents.
• Proficiency in structured information extraction from PDFs, spreadsheets, and semi-structured text.
• Strong programming skills in Python.
• Experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch, JAX, or modern LLM orchestration tools.
• Deep understanding of LLM limitations, including hallucinations and robustness.
• Must be from an EU country or have a valid Dutch work permit.

Nice to have

• Experience with RAG, agentic systems, or conversational AI.
• Knowledge of FAIR data practices or scientific data management.
• Background in bioinformatics, computational biology, or plant sciences.
• Experience working in research-oriented or interdisciplinary environments.
