Materials Engineer (Aerospace)

Materials Engineer (Aerospace): Supporting R&D development and scale-up of ceramic matrix composite (CMC) fabrication processes with an accent on composite layup and densification for thermal protection systems. Focus on designing fabrication workflows, conducting material characterization, and improving process repeatability on the pilot line.

What you will do

• Support composite layup, shaping, and densification operations to deliver TPS demonstrator parts.
• Own all process QA data collection activities and manage the associated database.
• Conduct characterization of finished C/SiC goods to assess performance and inform development strategies.
• Operate prepreg layup, compression molding, filament winding, curing, resin infiltration, and pyrolysis systems.
• Develop and maintain process documentation, work instructions, and standardized operating procedures.
• Support the installation, maintenance, and scale-up of pilot-line manufacturing hardware.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Science, Mechanical, Chemical, or Aerospace Engineering.
• Familiarity with materials characterization techniques such as mechanical testing, SEM, and metallographic mounting/polishing.
• U.S. citizenship, national, or lawful permanent resident (Green Card holder) status is required for ITAR compliance.
• Ability to work independently in a hands-on engineering environment.
• Willingness to work extended hours and weekends when necessary.
• Ability to lift more than 50lbs and travel up to 30%.
