TL;DR

Fiber Optical Repair Technician: Repair, restoration, and maintenance of fiber optic infrastructure, including splicing, testing, and troubleshooting of single-mode and ribbon fiber cables with an accent on live-network environments and high-availability services. Focus on performing fault isolation, emergency restorations adhering to SLAs, root cause analysis, and ensuring minimal service disruption under pressure.

What you will do

  • Perform fault isolation, repairs, splicing, and full restoration on fiber optic cables in MMVs, splice cases, and ODFs using precision tools like fusion splicers.
  • Conduct testing with OTDR, OLTS, power meters; interpret traces, verify post-repair loss and reflectance.
  • Maintain documentation, comply with standards (ITU-T, FOA, BICSI), and support audits.
  • Collaborate with field ops, engineers, and managers; provide mentorship and on-call incident response.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, SOP refinement, and staying current with fiber technologies.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in fiber optic repair, splicing, testing, restoration including live-network work
  • Proficient with OTDR, OLTS, fusion splicer, fiber identifier; interpret OTDR traces accurately.
  • Knowledge of fiber types (OS1/OS2, OM3/OM5), connectors (LC, SC, MPO), high-count/ribbon systems.
  • Experience in OSP/ISP, data center infrastructure, Layer 1 principles.
  • Safety compliance: laser safety, LOTO, PPE; strong problem-solving under pressure.
  • Proficiency with reporting systems, MS Office, ticketing platforms.

Nice to have

  • Certifications: FOA CFOT, CFOS/T, BICSI Technician, OEM training.
  • Experience in data centers, metro/hyperscale networks, project leadership.
  • Valid driver’s license for field work.
