TL;DR

Senior Environment Artist (VR): Creating high-quality, optimized 3D environments and assets for a new Virtual Reality IP with an accent on Unreal Engine workflows, VR performance optimization, and environment lighting and materials. Focus on designing and polishing levels from proxy modeling to final optimization, collaborating cross-functionally, and mentoring junior artists.

Location: Must be local to or willing to relocate to Montreal, Canada. This is an onsite role starting virtually until new offices are ready.

What you will do

  • Create high-quality 3D environments, props, and assets optimized for VR performance and visual fidelity.
  • Drive level creation from proxy modeling through final polish and optimization in Unreal Engine.
  • Collaborate with art leadership, design, engineering, animation, and audio teams to deliver cohesive levels.
  • Contribute to improving workflows and pipelines for environment art creation.
  • Balance environment art and collision for gameplay readability and VR movement metrics.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level artists and integrate work from outsource teams.

Requirements

  • Must have 8+ years experience as an environment artist in AAA game development for console, PC, or VR.
  • Proficiency in Maya, Photoshop, and Unreal Engine with expertise in UE5 environment tools and pipelines.
  • Proven ability to optimize content for real-time VR performance and create environment architecture and assets to industry standards.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills in an iterative development process.
  • Must be local to or willing to relocate to Montreal, Canada.

Nice to have

  • Hands-on VR development experience.
  • Knowledge of environment lighting and materials in Unreal Engine.
  • Previous mentoring or management experience with junior artists.
  • Broad knowledge of other art disciplines such as animation, illustration, or graphic design.
