Staff Backend Engineer

What you will do

• Design and implement scalable backend services consumed by multiple Grafana Cloud products.
• Collaborate with product teams to align features with product strategy and customer needs.
• Support technical direction and contribute to strategic discussions on observability solutions.
• Represent the company in open source forums and collaborate across departments.
• Participate in on-call rotations and take ownership of running services.
• Contribute to open-source projects beyond your team’s scope.

Requirements

• Must be based in Canada or able to work remotely within EST time zone.
• 8+ years of software engineering experience with proficiency in at least one major programming language; Go experience is a plus but not required.
• Experience with Kubernetes in production and cloud-based software development.
• Strong skills in building maintainable, performant software and distributed systems.
• Experience in technical leadership, mentoring, and participating in on-call rotations.
• Familiarity with observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, and OpenTelemetry.

Nice to have

• Experience designing observability backends and contributing to open source projects.
• In-depth knowledge of cloud platform internals and metrics visualization concepts.
